Since 1994 Topspace has been renting roof boxes, roof racks, snow chains and bike carriers. Topspace consists of two networks; the Topspace network where it all started, and the rapidly growing Rent-a-Skibox network. Through exclusive partnerships across the Netherlands many customers are helped every year. Topspace & Rent-a-Skibox are market leaders in this field and have around 20,000 regularly returning customers, along with many new customers every year. The summer holiday and winter sports seasons are our busiest periods.

Product range
As an official partner of Thule, high quality equipment is very important to us. Therefore our roof rack assortment consists exclusively of Thule roof racks. These stand out because of their easy installation and silent fit. The roof boxes consist of a mix of Hapro and Thule boxes. Which boxes are used depends on which network the partner operates in. Topspace uses only Thule boxes, Rent-a-Skibox only Hapro boxes. We also have extensive experience with snow chains, both conventional chains with a ring on the rear side and tread chains. We only supply A-brand products.
Customer process
Almost all our customers book the desired items several weeks before departure via our website. They choose a rental partner themselves using our location finder. The reservation is processed and confirmed if the materials are available and compatible with the customer’s vehicle. The confirmation also contains payment instructions. An appointment is scheduled with the customer and installation takes place at the agreed time. Upon return, the rental items are removed, checked and reported back. After confirmation the customer receives their deposit back. All customers receive a reminder email 11 months after the rental period ends to rent again. This ensures many returning customers and helps us build a stable and growing customer base together.
In practice
In consultation with our rental partner, 12 to 20 roof boxes are kept at the location. Shortages are replenished and surpluses are collected as soon as possible. The installation compensation is 25% of the rental value during the summer season and 30% during the winter season. The average rental value is €143 excluding VAT per reservation, higher in summer and lower in winter. Installation or issuing takes on average 15 minutes. The busiest periods run from mid-December to mid-March and from mid-June to the end of August. Sales generate a 10% commission. Customers can also buy out the final cleaning for €15 / €12.50 which fully benefits the partner.
Head office
The head office is located in Breda with a 2300m² warehouse. With 7 full-time and 5 part-time employees all bookings are managed. This includes all customer contact, information services, payment processing, stock management and logistics. We also ensure timely replenishment of shortages at partner locations and the collection of surpluses. We operate with 99.99% accuracy, checking and double checking, because like our customers we do not want to face last-minute surprises.

Partner process
The installation partner has access to our web portal. It clearly shows which customers are coming for installation and removal. There is a mail function to easily send installation appointment times to the customer. At the agreed time the rented items are installed and the rental document is signed. Upon return: removal, inspection and if necessary cleaning, after which Topspace refunds the deposit to the customer.
